SAT Quick Facts:
- Most students register for the SAT online; however, students may also register for the test by mail.
- Most high school students take the SAT twice, once during the spring of their junior year and again in the fall of their senior year.
- The SAT is administered several days throughout the year at specific testing sites.
- The test has three sections: critical reading, writing and mathematics.
- In addition to the SAT, students may also take SAT Subject Tests to showcase specific subject areas. Some colleges and universities throughout the nation require or recommend applicants to take Subject Tests to be considered for admission. Be sure to check college admission requirements when planning to test.
- The price of the SAT is $51.00. Some students may be eligible to receive a fee waiver.
The ACT
The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. The ACT also has an optional writing test. ACT results are accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the U.S.

- Most students register for the ACT online; however, students may also register for the test by mail.
- Most high school students take the ACT twice, once during their junior year and again during their senior year. Many students take the ACT and the SAT, though taking both tests are not required for college admission.
- The ACT is administered several days throughout the year at specific testing sites. *Apalachee High School often administers the ACT.
- The test includes four sections: English, mathematics, reading and science. Students may also take an optional writing section, known as the ACT Plus Writing.
- The price of the ACT is $36.00. The ACT Plus Writing is $52.50. Some students may be eligible to receive a fee waiver.

ASSET and COMPASS Tests
The ASSET is a timed, paper-and-pencil test that evaluates knowledge base in the four following areas: writing, reading, numerical skills, and algebra.
The COMPASS is an untimed, computerized test that evaluated knowledge base in the four following areas: writing, essay-writing, mathematics and English.
Both tests are used for admission into technical and some junior colleges. Students who wish to qualify for dual enrollment are required to take any one of the four tests listed above (ASSET, COMPASS, SAT or ACT) and meet qualifying scores for their specific program of interest.
The ASSET Test is administered at Apalachee High School regularly. The COMPASS test is administered at partnering technical and junior colleges. If you are interested in taking either test, stop by the Dual Enrollment / Work-Based Learning Office or College & Career Center.
